Buying a home? Check for Permits

The Record has a good story noting the importance of checking that all additions and renovations to the home you are buying was conducted with proper permits. May towns require a certificate of occupancy when a home is sold, but even so, buyers should check with the municipality about their permit history and compare it to what they know about the house. No matter what, there is no reason to buy a house where the seller has created unnecessary problems.
